Panama is one of the ten provinces of Panama. Its capital is Panama City, which is also the capital of the Republic. It has an area of 9 thousand 166 km²
Panama Province is made up of 6 districts and 57 townships
It was founded by Pedro Arias Dávila on August 15, 1519, it constituting the first city erected by the Spanish in the Pacific Ocean. Two years later, on September 15, 1521, Panama received the title of city, by means of a Royal Certificate, and with it received a Coat of Arms, also conferred by His Majesty, Carlos I of Spain. It was looted and destroyed by the English pirate Henry Morgan in 1671, after which it was transferred in 1673 to the site known today as the Old Town, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1997 by UNESCO.
It covers the archipelago of Las Perlas, located on the center of the Gulf of Panama. The capital is settled in the city of San Miguel.
The district's economy is based on agriculture, fishing, livestock, poultry, electric power production, tourism, timber marketing, etc.
